Divinity Gives Back!Ok Friends, we need your help…
Each year as the holiday season approaches, Holly and I meet to discuss “Divinity Gives Back” – a tradition we started years ago where we team up with our patients to serve a need within our community. This year, just before that meeting, a woman named Latoya Jordan reached out to Holly & Daniel for help, proving to us once again, that God always leads Divinity and the work we do here!
Ms. Jordan is the Principal of Lacoochee Elementary School, located about 7-8 miles north of Dade City in Pasco County – it’s the elementary school that Holly attended – the school that Holly’s mother taught in for 30 years – and they need help!
Lacoochee, Florida is a small town – population of under 1,400 people with an average yearly income of under $15,000 per capita. Although Lacoochee Elementary is a Title 1 school with 94% of the children qualifying for free lunch, the desperate need there cannot be filled with federal funding. See, the school has the things they need to teach, but the children, who come from impoverished families with limited resources, don’t have the basic human needs…food and clothing!
Because of this chronic need, the school began a Kid’s Closet about 7 years ago, where through donation, they continuously collect clothing for infants to adults, male & female, and display them in one of their classrooms for families in need to shop free of charge! Then about 2 years ago, they created a Food Pantry, filled again by donations, where the children & their families can get the food they need for dinner and non-school days. Both have been a saving grace to the Lacoochee Elementary families, but now they have run out of supplies!!! That’s where YOU come in!

A word from Holly…
“I grew up just outside of Lacoochee, but because my mom was a teacher at Lacoochee Elementary (for 30 years), my brother and I both went there. It was one of the two Title 1 schools on the east side of Pasco County, situated in the middle of government housing, so it was really notorious for being very poor. I remember that although the students there barely had anything, they were kind, and some were extremely bright. We were all friends because as kids, we didn’t differentiate each other based on class or money. I have lots of fond memories of those days.
Thanks to social media, I stayed in touch with many of the kids from back then…some were able to break that cycle of poverty and make incredible lives for themselves, but many of the kids that were really bright and had lots of potential, just weren’t able to, which breaks my heart.
Doing this fundraiser for Lacooccee Elementary is not only a way to give back, but to remember where I came from. It’s to help these children have clothes to wear and to prevent them from going to sleep hungry – and just maybe, in doing that, if even one child sees that people care, sees that there is possibility and hope for their future and the potential to break the cycle, then we will have achieved our goal and will have truly given back. I cannot do this alone, can I count on you for help? “
