The Story of Clay Blommel

May 28th, 2025

Dade City, where Holly and Daniel grew up, is a small town about 40 minutes away from Spring Hill, a place where everyone seems to know everyone. While some left after going away to college, others stayed and laid roots in that town, making it still feel like home whenever the originals returned. “Clay is ‘that guy’ – a friend of ours from middle & high school…well-liked by all, talented, kind, hard-working; always greeting you with a warm smile, treating you as if you never left,” said Holly. This is why, when hearing the shocking news, Holly and Daniel knew they had to do something to help!
Clay and his wife Stephanie have been together for 23 years. They will celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary on June 5th. Clay is a Heavy Equipment Operator for Tampa Electric, while Stephanie is dedicated to the classroom where she is a 2nd grade Instructional Assistant at Academy at the Farm Charter School.
Stephanie has been his rock holding down the fort with unwavering love and determination while managing their funny farm full of animals that bring both joy and happy chaos to their home. Their 17-year-old son Andrew, a passionate baseball player, continues to inspire with his grit and heart on and off the field. He will be starting his Senior year of High School in August. Their 12-year-old daughter Aubrey, who lights up every room she enters, finds peace and happiness with her beloved horses. Aubrey will be going off to middle school in August.
March 5th changed everything for Clay and his entire family. What started as a visit to the ER quickly turned into the beginning of a fight they could have never imagined. By March 10th, Clay was at Moffitt Cancer Center, undergoing an awake craniotomy to remove a baseball-sized tumor. 98% was successfully removed.
THE DIAGNOSIS: Grade 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. A second tumor remains on the left side, but it is dormant for now.
THE PROGNOSIS: Terminal. Doctors say 12-14 months, although they will fight with all they have to try and beat that.
Since the completion of his surgery, Clay has bravely completed six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy, finishing that chapter on May 16th. On June 5th, he’ll have a follow-up MRI to check the tumor’s status. If all looks good, he’ll begin a targeted medication tailored specifically for the make-up of his tumor.
Through every moment, Clay has shown incredible strength and he hasn’t faced this journey alone – Stephanie has been out of work and by his side, giving him his meds throughout the day and taking him back and forth to endless doctor appointments. His children are trying their best to pick up the slack on the farm and together, this family is walking through the hardest chapter of their lives. Rooted in love, faith, and resilience, they are facing each day with hope and courage, but with no income, they need help.
